Whistler! A World famous Skiing destination in BC Canada, is a wonderful place to visit in both summer or winter. Whether you like to ski and snowboard, or not, there is lots to do. There are miles of hiking trails, lots of biking trails and great places to shop, eat and stay.
We visited Whistler Blackcomb in the summer. There was still snow on the mountain.
Whistler and Blackcomb mountains have a combined total of 38 lifts including the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. If you want to go on the Peak to Peak Gondola you have to travel UP to the summit first.
We went on Chair lifts and in a small gondola before we could get to THE BIG ONE.
The Name “Peak to Peak” means just that… the Gondola takes you across the valley between the mountains peaks.
According to The Daily Hive
The PEAK 2 PEAK has broken three world records, two of which are recognised in the 2015 edition of the Guinness World Records Book. These are:
- The “longest unsupported span between two cable car towers” 3.024 kilometres (1.88 miles)
- The “highest cable car above ground” 436 metres (1430.45 feet)
- PEAK 2 PEAK completes the longest continuous lift system in the world
Inspired by the ski lifts in Switzerland, at its highest point the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola soars 5,280 vertical feet from the valley bottom, and has set the benchmark for mountain-top destinations across the globe.
Whistler was the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics
It was a wonderful day Travelling up and down the mountains.
