Red Eyes and Still Creepy

The Details are what make the Red Tailed Flesh Fly creepy. Firstly, its scientific name is Sarcophagidae, from the same Greek word as sarcophagus  which is a box-like funeral receptacle for a corpse.

This is not your average black fly. Take a closer look. It has red eyes and a red tail. Its body is black and white and it is a larger than a house fly. They differ from most flies in that they are ovoviviparous, opportunistically depositing hatched or hatching maggots instead of eggs on carrion, dung, decaying material, or open wounds of mammals, hence their common name.  The best solution is to swat hard and fast and remember to wear a bandaid.
